Windy Whitsand

A few days since the last update and there's not been too much to shout about?  After the last of the northwesters blew we had a flip around and the South east pumped for a day, i sailed at Melkboss and was hanging onto my 4.2 and it just seemed to get windier and windier!!

It was pretty fun sailing, mostly riding as i'm still getting into the jumping again, it would be very easy to fly out, hit a ramp and go 30ft up in the air, just in your first few days of jumping you gotta remember how to land again, so it's probably best not to go mental from the off!

After the SE session at the boss we chased it down the coast to Whitsand the next day as the temperature rose and the wind died up north, it was pumping down there, fully powered on 4.2 again and some nice head to logo high waves, pretty fun and i wasn't expecting waves like that, it was totally flat up in table view...
Again, all good fun and i even made a few decent jumps, add to that nice to get into some proper waves with a bit more punch to them at last.... well worth the trip, as always....

looked like it was going to blow up north today as it was really windy in the morning, i decided to hang around and mop up an afternoon session at Melkboss but it wasn't to be, it got lighter and lighter as it got hotter and hotter...  i should have gone with my instincts and headed south again, must be losing my edge!!  I won't make that mistake again!

It's gone a bit off for a couple of days again and the waves have disappeared too, long range is looking promising though.... a few bumps of swell on the horizon..

Scarborough session

No, not the east coast of blighty scarborough, more the very south west coast of Africa!
The wind's still persisting from the right, and this time it wasn't so windy or wavey up in table view so we headed south for the day.  Whitsand was it's usual side offshore, super gusty and pretty strong, but, not really worth sailing there when it's knee high, so we carried on down to Scarbs.  it's typically 10 knots windier in scarbs than whitsand and side to side on from the right, the waves roll in too so it gets pretty hectic!
I ended up totally stacked on my 4.2 hitting some logo high ramps, made for some interesting starboard tack jumping but i got the hang of it by the end! was good fun but a total work out in the end!!

Joseph here was Classic, comparing it to Felixstowe at 15 knots on arrival but by the end of the session confirmed it was absolutely nothing like felixstowe! maxed out on his 4.2 with logo high waves!!
The rain came and spoiled the session sending the wind up and up, by the end it was 35+ knots, raining and getting a little too out of control...
looks like more to come tomorrow too... the south easters and sunshine are only days away though :)

Land of Starboard tack??

you'd never have thought it but Cape Town's turning into the land of wind from the right!
It's been nearly a week of NW wind and it looks like the forecast is set to continue that way.
Yesterday i had a bit of a session up at doodles, on the water i mean, not in the bar! it was pretty light, 5.0 but some solid logo to mast high sets rolling through. was tricky but fun.

Today, the winds clicked up a few notches and i made it out early this morning (well 9am!) not exactly early, but it was worth it, the wind was quite northerly so quite side offshore and some of the biggest waves were about mast high.  i had some killer waves, got a few really nice waves, a couple of big airs and even a 360 which i was happy with, since last time i sailed this way around which was ages ago!  Best thing about today was that the session was right off the front of our house! funny, no one ever sails here but it looked good when i got up so i went out, then loads of people started coming out, it's the new spot, Joe's spot.  I'm staying with joe and its a rig up and go situation!
Time for some lunch now and then i'll head out for another session.. awesome!
