BWA Round 1 and 2 round up.

Without much wind of late to speak off the action has been pretty limited on the water, i was desperately hoping all that would change and we'd be in for a classic spring like last years round of events..

BWA round 1 - Rhosniegr, last years epic wind and waves didn't come through for this year which was a big blow, not just for the event but my hopes of getting the BWA wave title... Rhosniegr would probably be my favourite spot to sail as it's my local beach and would have given me the best chance to good start..
To put it short... it didn't happen!  instead the Funsport crew put on a killer event anyway, there was food galore, Jet Ski's to play with, Sup's, surf boards, all the beach toys we needed and a cracking 'Music Legends' fancy dress party... allow me to introduce Pavarotti, Madonna and Axel Rose... all actually live within a few miles of rhosniegr, you'd never thought they'd have popped out for a beer on the saturday night?

The one problem with windsurfing is we need wind, when you don't get it there's not much you can do? Funsport did everything possible to put on a great show and you'll have to take my word for it when i say trust me, it's firing on its day!
(last year)

BWA round 2 - Ireland

Heading to Ireland straight after rhosneigr with a promising forecast had me in pretty high spirits, it had been ages since last time i was sailing and i was keen as.  The wind eventually arrived on the 2nd day but we only had really small waves, perhaps waist high if we're bigging it up? it was decided to go ahead and push for a result so gradually through the day we worked our way through the single elimination hoping things would improve with the incoming tide? they didn't! but still we pressed on.  At this point it sounds like I'm saying it was sketchy conditions and in all honesty it was, but at the same time it was a good call to go ahead and push for a result, missing one event already meant if we missed the second it would be half way through the season without a heat sailed?
(a reminder of how it can be!)

The head judge and crew pushed on and we got to a final 4 of Timo, Skye, Proffitt and myself.  It's very hard to tell the difference between people when it's tiny and you're only scoring 2 waves, we all do pretty much the same thing, wave ride with some 1 handed airs, that sort of thing? but, in the end the judges called that Proffitt edged it with Skye second, me in third and Timo in 4th.  A tough call, and given the conditions and scoring levels i was surprised there weren't any scores tied.
The wind never materialised to complete a double elimination so it's a well done to everyone and where they finished.

Well done to the amateurs who got a few rounds in and i heard reports they had the best time ever, so it sounded like the event was a success at all levels! next stop Tiree... maybe?
